Every assignment needs six things
A programme owner, outcome, bounded scope, expected hours, access level and completion or handover condition. Open-ended requests for free labour will not be treated as volunteer roles.
Checks depend on the assignment risk
Potential checks include identity, references, portfolio or technical review, conflicts, confidentiality, safeguarding and data-responsibility acknowledgement. Contact with children or vulnerable people requires enhanced controls.
Roles will state a realistic contribution pattern
Examples may include a two-hour technical review, a six-week mentor sprint or a defined project contribution. Volunteers should not assume constant availability is required, and programmes must not assume unrecorded availability.
Work must be documented and transferable
Assignments will state intellectual-property terms, attribution, confidentiality, repository access, handover and what may appear in a portfolio. Community and applicant information remains protected.
